Stella Maris 1952

Stella Maris 1952

STELLA MARIS, fishing vessel: At 9 p.m. on July 18, 1952, the vessel ran aground near Tewais Point, opposite the entrance to Bluff Harbour, and became wedged between rocks. Her two crew members, Messrs. A. Eckhold (skipper) and J. Johnson, made unsuccessful attempts to free the Stella Marls, which later sank and became a total loss. The two men scrambled ashore and lit a fire, but it was not until six o’clock the following morning that it was seen and they were rescued by the fishing vessel Evening Star.
