Five members of Kawhia family are facing 120 charges in connection with a black market fishing operation. The Ministry of Fisheries laid the charges against the family and a company belonging to them after a 10-month investigation. It is alleged the family has been selling fish through a King Country black market network with up to 250 customers. Fisheries officer Patrick Lynch says it is believed the operation could have been running for the past nine years. The accused are to appear in the Te Kuiti District Court.
