Selling Lobster From Car Boot

A 50-year-old former commercial fisherman from Whangarei, New Zealand was charged under the Fisheries Act after allegedly offering lobster he caught recreationally for $15-$30 each. Ministry of Fisheries district compliance manager Darren Edwards said. ‘Fish can only be purchased from a licensed fish premises or a commercial fisherman. Members of the public should be mindful of people offering to sell any type of fish or shellfish from unmarked vehicles or for cash only. The man could face fines of up to $250,000 and forfeiture of his vehicle and dive gear. The fisherman was apprehended following a public tip-off. Anyone who thinks fish is not being sold legally should call the Ministry of Fisheries on 0800 4 POACHER (0800 476224).
