British Graduate Dies on First Scuba Dive in Australia

A police investigation has been launched after a graduate drowned while scuba diving just days into a trip of a lifetime in Australia. Bethany Farrell, 23, was enjoying the underwater diving for the first time off the famous Whitsunday Islands when she became separated from her instructor.

A search was launched and the English literature graduate was found dead on the seabed, 11m from the surface.

Her parents, Patrick and Caron, of Colchester, Essex, are still trying to piece together the sequence of events that led to their daughter’s death. It has raised questions about whether or not Miss Farrell was properly supervised, with her parents declaring “she should have been safe”.
