Calypso to be restored

The Cousteau Society reports that Jacques Cousteau’s iconic flagship, Calypso, will leave her berth in Brittany, France and be restored before becoming “a living representative of ecology sailing the oceans of the world.” The vessel, originally a US-built Royal Navy minesweeper, was Couteaus’s expedition vessel throughout his career. Since an accident in 1996, ownership battles and financial woes have delayed plans for her restoration. The current plan is that the Calypso will leave her current berth in the first three months of 2016.
