Lily of the Wave 1878

Lily of the Wave 1878

LILY OF THE WAVE, ketch : The ketch, a vessel of 10 tons, was stranded on the beach near Arrow Rock, at the entrance to Nelson Harbour, on May 11, 1878. A fierce gale was blowing at the time, and the ketch quickly commenced to break up. The Court of Inquiry found that the cause of the casualty was that the Lily of the Wave was left at anchor without anyone on board. The ketch was commanded by Captain Hone Raniera, also known as John Daniel.
