Offshore from Napier, the reef is about 1,600m long with depths ranging from 3m to 18m.
NATIONAL AQUARIUM OF NEW ZEALAND:
Location: Marine Parade, Napier. Depth: 3m. An easy scuba dive in the Aquarium’s shark tank amongst seven-gilled, spotted dog, sand and carpet sharks. On the sand are gurnard, beautiful fish with wings like a butterfly. Blue cod move in close and large trevally and stingrays move past. A chance to see quite a few fish you don’t normally see, in crystal clear water.
Location: Marine Parade, Napier. Depth: 0-4m. Snorkel with two common dolphins, Shona and Kelly, that have been at Napier’s Marineland for over 30 years. They’ll move in and check you out, and the more you roll and play with them the better the interaction becomes. If you’ve never snorkelled with dolphins this 30 minute encounter will have you buzzing.
