Day Dawn 1879
DAY DAWN, schooner : The vessel was loadÂ¬ing ballast at Ward Island, Wellington Harbour, on July 11, 1879, and was driven ashore during a strong gale. Her bottom was stove in, and she became a total wreck, the crew reaching the island with difficulty.
The Day Dawn, No. 52,429, was a schooner of 24 tons register, built at Omaha, Auckland, in February, 1867, by Alexander Meiklejohn, and her dimensions were : length 53 ft., beam 14.7 ft., depth 5.6 ft.
