An irreplaceable collection of maritime treasure salvaged by Kelly Tarlton was stolen from the floating restaurant and museum the Tui, at Waitangi on 8 April.
Keith McEwan was caught by Police on 11 May in connection with the theft of up to $500,000 of historic gold jewellry, coins and relics. The treasure has not been recovered and it is believed to have been split up. Missing items include miniature gold bicycles, gold rings, charms, brooches, studs, fob watches, sovereigns, lockets and ruby and diamond bracelets.
McEwan has been remanded in custody until 30 May when he will appear in the Kaikohe District Court to enter a plea. If you can assist the Police with the whereabouts of any of the stolen items please contact Russell Price, Kaikohe CIB on 0-9-405 2973.
