Ancient squid eater makes international debut

One of the most dramatic fossil finds ever in New Zealand has been published in the journal Palaeontology. The previously unknown fossil Kaiwhekea Katiki has been described as looking like a snake threaded through the body of a turtle. The ancient giant fast-swimming reptile is the first of its family to be found in New Zealand and is only the third such member to be found in the southern hemisphere.
