Tiger shark at Kelly Tarltons

Date: 1/2/2001

A tiger shark that was accidently caught in a net at Otamure Bay, north of Whananaki, is now at Auckland’s Kelly Tarlton’s Underwater World. The 2.5 metre shark was quite dopey when caught, and at first was thought to be dead. Once it was realised that the shark was alive it was put back into deeper water with buoys attached to it so that it could be tracked. A relatively rare find in New Zealand waters, tiger sharks are among the most dangerous of sharks as they will attack anything.
