Survey Seahorse 2000 is getting a positive response to the survey project and the survey sheet returns, especially from the Dive New Zealand survey sheet distribution.
Divers and the community are encouraged to provide information on seahorse sightings. The information will be used to determine distribution and population sizes around New Zealand and will be helpful to support the management of their conservation.
Seahorse are sought in great numbers for use in traditional medicines, as aquarium fishes, and as curiosities. World-wide, seahorse numbers have become dangerously low and New Zealandâs only seahorse is under threat.
