Bottom trawling is âabsolute annihilationâ of the seabed and must be stopped says Dr Steve OâShea a New Zealand Marine scientist. Dr OâShea said it was time the Government lived up to its promise to impose marine reserve orders on 10% of New Zealandâs marine environment by 2010. âThere should be some urgency. For Godâs sake letâs do something practical now before itâs too late.â Greenpeace has been waging an intensive campaign against bottom trawling, dogging trawl boats on the high seas round New Zealand to highlight what it says is a practise that is wiping out deep sea marine life.
