A diver is still missing and another seriously ill with the bends after they were dragged deep under the waters of Cook Strait. The divers were caught in severe underwater turbulence and dragged to 64m below the surface near the Brothers Islands, north of Tory Channel. One diver returned to the surface and was taken on board the dive boat suffering from the bends. With the help of an ambulance paramedic the diver was harnessed and winched up to the Westpac rescue helicopter and later taken by air to the recompression chamber at Christchurch Hospital. The helicopter, meanwhile took two members of the police dive team to search the area for the second diver.
