Young Artist of the Sea

Date: 1/10/2005

A clear blue ocean bearing life and hope, made up of diversified marine life forms – manta rays dancing, dolphins playing, turtle, whale, shark, fish and corals in harmony, were the subject of the winning entry by nine year-old AJS Lakshmishree from India. The Professional Association of Diving Instructors and Asian Geographic magazines awarded her the Young Artist of the Sea prize with a S$1000 education fund at the recent Celebrate the Sea marine festival. The annual Children’s painting competition is an integral component of Celebrate the Sea. Organised by Ocean Environment, supported by Asian Geographic magazines, PADI Diving Society and Project AWARE Foundation, it aims to create public awareness for the conservation of sharks and encourages children from Asia Pacific to show their fresh perspectives on conservation.  In preparations to join the competition, Lakshmishree developed a love with the ocean and aspires to be one of the great marine artists in the future.
