Specialist marine electrical company, Electrics Afloat Ltd, has again ensured Aucklandâs iconic Bean Rock lighthouse can safely be seen at night. EAL, who were also responsible for installing the new Sharp solar panels on the lighthouse at the entrance to the Waitemata Harbour, were again in action as reports came in of a light that was becoming harder and harder to see. Although the new solar panels were generating plenty of power, the old battery banks were unable to retain it and, after a series of cloudy days, the light was starting to fade. After a request from Ports of Auckland, the EAL team managed to replace the old battery bank with a series of six two-volt deep cycle batteries specially designed for solar panel arrays – ensuring that Aucklandâs favourite lighthouse is now shining brightly once again.
