New invisible shark cage to be tested off South Africa

Date: 1/12/2005

Shark tourists watch the great whites of Gansbaai from behind bars but a new cage designed by Kim Maclean will make one feel there’s nothing between you and those jaws. And she assures that it will be absolutely safe. We are told that the perspex type case will withstand a collision at more than 40km/h with a large shark. First experiments show that the transparent cage made the sharks less nervous than the old barred cages. The shark’s reaction to the different cages is being monitored.
