Navy explosive experts ready to sink the Oriskany Weather permitting the 17th of May 2006 will see the sinking of the 888ft long aircraft carrier Oriskany in the Gulf of Mexico. The navy explosives expert in charge of the sinking of the decommissioned aircraft carrier thinks it could take anywhere from 90 minutes to two hours to sink. About 500 pounds of explosives will  be used to sink the ship in 65 metres of water about 42km southeast of Pensacola Pass. The Oriskany is to become an underwater reef and diving destination.
