In the Gulf of Mexico, off Texasâ shoreline, a search for signs of ancient human life has begun. A team of scientists will be conducting a week long examination of the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary. This marine sanctuary is a protected area of underwater salt domes topped with reefs. Thousands of years ago the water levels of the Gulf of Mexico were 200 feet lower. So the Texas shoreline was about 100 miles south of where it is today. And if man was around then he may have been living right on the shoreline of Texas. There are dozens of geologists, biologists and marine archaeologists involved in the expedition. There will be two ships, a nuclear-powered research submarine, a remotely operated underwater vehicle and scuba divers utilised in this search.
