Archaeologists explore ancient ship remains

Date: 1/4/2007

Off India’s Goa’s coast, marine archaeologists are diving to discover and explore the remnants of an ancient steam engine shipwreck near Marmagao. It is expected to take three years to solve the puzzle. New evidence will provide clues but is thought that valuables such as ivory and ancient guns may still rest on the bottom of the Arabian Sea. In Lisbon, Portuguese authorities are searching maritime trade documents between the two nations with the hope of aiding the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) in Goa. It is expected that as many as 40 ancient shipwrecks may rest along the Goa to Karnataka coast.
