The SS Storaa, torpedoed off the Hastings coast in 1943, will be given full military protection. The two daughters of Petty Officer James Varndell, who died with 21 others when his merchant ship was torpedoed have won the right for the wreck to be classed as an official war grave. The wreck will be protected from unauthorised interference by divers who will only be allowed to dive on a âlook but donât touch or enterâ basis.
