Scientists discover new life

Date: 1/10/2007

Scientists found hundreds of new marine creatures such as Carnivorous sponges, free-swimming worms, crustaceans and mollusks living in the Weddell Sea in the Southern Ocean providing new insights into the evolution of ocean life. ‘What was once thought to be a featureless abyss is a dynamic, variable and biologically rich environment’ said Dr Katrin Linse, a marine biologist from the British Antartica Survey. ‘Finding this extraordinary treasure trove of marine life is our first step to understanding the complex relationships between the Deep Ocean and distribution of marine life’.
