Marine Biosecurity Promotion

Date: 1/2/2008

New Zealand’s Biosecurity Minister Jim Anderton, has asked boaties, fishermen, and other people enjoying our coastal waters over summer to keep their eyes peeled for potential marine pests. Jim Anderton said, ‘Biosecurity surveillance is not just the Government’s job. Everyone has a part to play in keeping our borders secure, and we need everyone to be our eyes and ears. Marine biosecurity is a particularly difficult area to patrol properly, with New Zealand’s vast stretches of coastline. Now is a good time to find and report any potential invaders.’  Reports can be made to: MAF Biosecurity New Zealand’s toll free number 0800 80 99 66.”
