18th century British warship found

Date: 1/8/2008

The

HMS Ontario

, a 22-gun brig sloop, was swamped by a gale as she crossed Lake Ontario in 1780. Lost with all hands she remained at the bottom of the lake for 228 years, before being discovered at 500 feet (152m), covered in mussels. Perfectly preserved by the freezing temperatures, two of her window panes are still intact, and her masts are still standing. The ship is being treated as a war grave.
