Scuba diver sought for wife’s suspected murder on Great Barrier Reef, Australia

Date: 1/8/2008

An American man whose wife died while scuba diving together should be tried for her murder, an Australian coroner has ruled. The coroner in Townsville, Queensland, issued a warrant for the arrest of Gabe Watson, whose wife, Tina, died on the Alabama couple’s honeymoon in October 2003. Mr Watson, a 31-year-old packaging manufacturer, denies killing his wife and indicated he has no intention of returning to Australia willingly. Queensland’s Director of Public Prosecutions will now prepare a request to the US authorities to have him extradited.
