Chuuk (Truk) Lagoonâs graveyard of the Japanese wartime fleet is revealed for the first time. It shows the full scale of Americaâs vengeance, 12 times more destructive than the infamous attack on Americaâs Navy base at Pearl Harbour. (70 ships were sunk with very few survivors) The death toll is believed to be near 3,000. A top underwater TV team explored the Japanese ships in one of the most ambitious TV projects ever undertaken by the BBC Natural History Unit. âIt is perhaps the last great journey of exploration on the planet,â says Dale Templar, series producer of prime-time documentary Pacific Abyss. The expedition undertook some of the deepest and most dangerous diving ever attempted by a TV crew.
