Scuba divers discovered in the Gulf of Finland at 50 metres six ships, one dating to the epoch of Peter the First. The divers were examining the bottom in the area of the future gas main âThe Nord Streamâ. While looking for mines and torpedoes, they came across the fleet. Out of all the ships discovered, Tjalk, a Russian military transport ship built according to Dutch design, is of the greatest interest to modern historians. The Tjalk measures almost 17 metres long and remains nearly intact. Experts assume it is most probably a ship from Peterâs fleet which sank in 1713.
