Californian inmates learn commercial diving as part of a programme to prepare them for life after jail. The hope is the experience will provide skills that lead to a change in behaviour. Upon completion nearly all inmates immediately go to work on offshore oil rigs and general commercial diving work. Statistics show more than 70% of Californiaâs inmates returned to prison. For inmates who do the programme the rates dramatically drops to around 3%. Visit
