Marine scientists from Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) discovered a new deep-water coral reef consisting of dense colonies of the cold-water coral species Lophelia pertusa.It contains a diversity of life including gorgonians, anemones, seastars and fish. The reef was discovered using specialist underwater camera equipment to investigate a previously unstudied pinnacle off the north-eastern flank of Rockall Bank.
