$38 billion hole in tourism’

The bleaching of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef caused by climate change will destroy one of the world’s greatest natural wonders and could cost Australia $37.7 billion over the next century and devastate tourism. Dr John Schubert, chairman Great Barrier Reef Foundation, said a study found half the tourists visiting the reef would stay away if it suffered permanent and total bleaching. The threat to the reef from coral bleaching is one of the most popularly recognised effects of climate change.
