Good news for recreational fishers

Date: 28/09/2009

Effective 1 October 2009 is a better method for taking rock lobster and the opening up of the Taranaki paua fishery. New Zealand recreational fishers gathering rock lobster (crayfish) can now use hand-operated lassoes in New Zealand. Spring-loaded lassoes are banned. A new size limit for Taranaki paua applies. The new minimum legal size of 85mm in shell length for paua found in beds between Awakino and Wanganui rivers now applies. This includes most paua beds within the Taranaki region. A daily bag limit of 10 paua per fisher per day will apply.
