Shark Maims Four Red Sea Swimmers

Date: 31/12/2010

In two separate attacks an oceanic white tip shark mauled four Russian
tourists swimming close to their beach hotels in the Ras Nasrani area
near the famed Sharm el-Sheikh resort in the Sinai Peninsula and bit
off their arms. The same shark may have been involved in an attack on
another couple swimming close to the resort beach on the previous day.
All four victims were flown to Cairo for medical treatment and their
condition was critical. Great white sharks in the Mediterranean may
have first arrived from the seas around Australia about 450,000 years
ago, genetic studies have suggested.
