Groundwater Depletion Raises Sea Level

Date: 1/2/2011

The rate at which humans worldwide pump dry underground stores of water has doubled say scientists after conducting a global assessment. People draw so much water from below ground that they are adding enough of it to the oceans (mainly by evaporation, than precipitation) to account for about 25% of the annual sea-level rise across the planet, the searchers found. The findings were published in Geophysical Research Letters.
