On-going Controversy ex-HMAS Adelaide

Date: 1/3/2011

Almost a year after ex-HMAS Adelaide was to be sunk off Avoca Beach, controversy continues over the scuttling. The No Ship Action Group is calling for more studies following reports that the Adelaides sister ship, ex-HMAS Canberra, which was scuttled 2.3km off Ocean Grove, Victoria, in 2009, has created problems. (see page 86, What’s Happening Australia). Parks Victoria, which manages the tourist attraction, said the helicopter hanger on the port side of the ship had separated from the main superstructure which could pose a hazard to divers.
