Japanese Stop Whale Hunt

Date: 1/3/2011

Fisheries agency official Tatsuya Nakaoku said the whaling hunt was halted in the Antarctic following persistent ‘violent’ disruptions by anti-whaling protesters. The fleet plans to resume hunting when conditions are deemed safe but he declined to say for how long the suspension was planned. The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society ships had been chasing the whaling fleet for weeks in the icy seas, trying to block Japans annual whale hunt, planned for up to 945 whales.
