Philanthropists Neal and Annette Plowman funded a 99-year lease of Rotoroa Island from the Salvation Army, formed a trust to create a conservation park and have opened it to the public after 100 years. Anyone with an interest in conservation, history, arts or nature can enjoy a new day trip destination within Aucklands (New Zealand) Hauraki Gulf. Experience the unique Salvation Army history of the island via the soon to be completed exhibition centre or take a walk to the jail, chapel, schoolhouse or cemetery. There are walking trails among some 450,000 native plants being re-introduced to the island. Relax on one of the beautiful beaches and enjoy a picnic or barbeque.
