WWI German U-Boat U-106

Date: 1/10/2011

A hydroid AUV aided in the discovery of the World War I German submarine U-106. The Royal Netherlands Navy’s survey vessel located an unidentified object while charting shipping lanes and later a wire-guided ROV designed to locate mines detected the shape of the vessel. The submarine had been missing since October 1917 off the coast of Terschelling (Netherlands). A brass plate bearing the serial number of the submarine was discovered by divers in 40 metres.
