WWII German U-Boat U-513

Date: 1/10/2011

The remains of the German submarine were discovered off Brazil’s coast. It was sunk by bombs from an American plane in 1943. Only seven of the 53 men on board survived the attack. Researchers from Kat Schurmann Institute and Vale do Itajai University located the U-513 almost 68 years to the day after it sank. Using a combination of high tech equipment, including a side scan sonar system, the 76.8 metre long submarine was discovered lying at a depth of 74.6 metres.
