A spectacular experience for tourists may damage the health of the pods, claims an international conservation group. More than 13 million people worldwide annually take whale watching tours. The Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society says the growing industry can be disruptive to the mammals’ wellbeing. The society says the impact on the creatures differs for each tour and operator. Aberdeen University biologist David Lusseau says problems surfaced as the activity has flourished. Measures to control poorly-managed tours are being looked at.
