Ballard Removes oil-leaking WWII Ship

Ballard Diving & Salvage removed the final section of a World War II Liberty ship weakened by scrapping activities and had released an estimated 70 gallons of oil into the Columbia River. By setting up a cofferdam containment and deconstructing the ship in the water, Ballard said its crew prevented more than 32,000 gallons of bunker oil from leaking into the river. Over 4.45 million pounds of steel and 824,822 pounds of debris were also removed.
