Threatened Species Released
Two threatened species of native fish were released as part of a wildlife regeneration project on New Zealand’s pest free Motutapu Island off Auckland. They were 100 redfin bullies – New Zealand’s most colourful native fish – and 100 crayfish, or koura. Department of Conservation (DOC) said some had been rescued from a section of stream that had been removed. DOC was alerted to their fate by Ngai Tai and managed to retrieve some redfin bullies and koura before they were killed or displaced by the pipeline work.
