Diver Likely Weighed Down

Date: 1/8/2013

Heavy diving gear may have been responsible for the death of an East Coast man who went missing while gathering mussels.
Anaru Gage was the nephew of Te Whanau a Apanui tribal leader Rikirangi Gage. The 30-year-old had been freediving at Omaio. At the 21 June 2013 inquest police said he was wearing a weight belt of up to 18 kg but may have needed only half that weight.
