World’s Oldest Port Found

Date: 1/8/2013

A French-Egyptian team discovered an ancient harbour about 4,500 years old at Wadi el-Jarf along the coast of the Red Sea,
Egypt’s State Information Service announced. The find is dated to the pharaoh Khufu’s reign, which lasted from 2,575 to 2,465 BCE. The harbour ‘predates by more than 1,000 years any other port structure known in the world,’ according to Pierre Tallet, an Egyptologist at Paris-Sorbonne University who led the team that made the discovery.
