For two weeks the United States and 40 other nations participated in the International Mine Countermeasures Exercise reported Reuters.
It was a drill in minesweeping and port security. The international effort came at a time when Iran was threatening to block the Strait of Hormuz and developing nuclear capabilities. As a main route for oil and gas experts, and mines planted in the waterway would interrupt imports and exports to the region. The practice drill covered minesweeping, flying drones and oil spill management.
