Whale Drags NZ Diver on Rescue Bid in Fiji

Date: 12/2/2014

Diver Sam Jupe saw a distressed 12m-long humpback whale caught in commercial fishing gear which may have been on for a long time, because the
whale’s tail was tied up like a ball by the gear. Mr Jupe, a dive instructor in New Zealand jumped in the water four or five times to cut more and more of the line off. While not all was removed, the whale seemed more relaxed and was able to swim away.
