An increase in the number of giant squid being caught along the Sea of Japan coast is leading fisherman to fear it may be an omen.
Three squid measured between three and four metres long. The two longest tentacles of another were missing, meaning it could have spanned eight metres. Giant squid can grow up to 13.1m in size and weigh as much as 275kg. Squid usually live 600 metres deep where temperatures are 6-10 degrees.
